Tri
Bratovchedki Singers (three cousins) specialize in Eastern European village
singing, a folk style which is fresh and unfamiliar to Americans.
They sing acapella projecting a hard edge and sometimes dissonant harmonies
within the complex rhythms native to the Balkans. Songs of love,
grief, national pride, local tales, and deep religious faiths kept identity
alive among Slavic peoples for centuries. This gives their music
an energetic, intense quality.
The Trio's current repertoire includes Bulgarian, Croatian, Macedonian,
Russian, Serbian, Slovak, and Ukranian songs.
