The
Eugene Herrling Communications Arts Center is located in
Room 436 Russell Labs.
This facility was originally established as a computer laboratory
for development and use of computer-based courseware and
originally equipped under the IBM Trochos Grant. Currently
the departments of Entomology and Plant Pathology jointly
maintain this facility under the management of the interdepartmental
LAN administrator and IT support staff. Access is controlled
by a combination lock which allows

- Projector and Laptop
Printing in
the Herrling Lab
There are currently three LAN - accessible
printers located in the Herrling Lab. These printers service
network Queues and NDPS printers defined on the Linden LAN.
Access is limited to persons with network user accounts.
HP Laserjet
8150
ATTENTION: The departments
of Plant Pathology and Entomogy currently provide printing
on this printer at no cost to the users of our LAN. This
is not a "free" service, however, and if it is abused the
departments will be forced to charge back for it's use.
(Note: the system keeps track of numbers of pages printed
by each LAN user)
Network name:
Windows: Gutenberg-NDPS
Macintosh: Gutenberg-NDPS
Mac OS / 10 Configuration:
- Printer utility from the Utilities folder
under Applications folder
- Select "Add Printer"
- Pull Down and select "IP Printing"
- Enter Printer's Address: plantpath.wisc.edu
(or Entomology.wisc.edu will work as well)
- DO NOT check "use default queue
on server
- Enter queue name: Gutenberg
- Pull Down Model and select HP
- Scrol down Model Name window to find
anHP8150 driver.
- If one cannot be found you should download the
drivers from the web.

HP Color
Laserjet 4600
ATTENTION: Printing to
this printer costs $0.50 per page. This will be charged
to the person logged in to the computer that generated the
print job. Page counts are generated automatically by the
server and are tallied once a month and charged back to
the user (or to the user's supervisor or major professor).
Windows users will get a window detailing these costs when
the print job is submitted. Mac users
will not.
Network name:
Windows: Herrling-Color
Macintosh: Herrling-Color-MacOS
Macintosh computers must be running OS X and user must
be 'logged in' to the PEN server and mounted a volume
before print jobs can be submitted to his printer. (if
not the Mac will LOOK like it printed but it will simply
disappear into the ether).
Mac OS / 10 Configuration:
