A collection of answers to the most commonly
asked questions regarding using XP operating system both
stand alone and on the web.....
- Windows XP security hole -- many users have reported unusual activity
on their XP machines. The default configuration -- out of the box
-- for Windows XP leaves the Guest account "exposed".
Wnen you check the Windows Control Panel under the User Accounts you
see that the Guest account is listed as "Off" but many users
report "invasions" from the Guest account either in the
form of files being copied to a 'share' drive on the local hard disk
(not the network disk!!) or having local printer suddenly begin printing
out garbage.
To fix this you must open the Computer Management
tool (Right click My Computer and select Manage from the menu)
Then select "Local Users and Groups"
Select "Users"
Click Here for a screen shot of this
window...
Double click on the Guest Icon and check the box dissabling the account.
You will now be much safer.....
