File:

  • New Folder - Click "File" and "New Folder" in the directory where you want to create a new folder.  Enter the name of the folder to be created in the pop-up box and click "Ok".  You may not see the folder at first if there are enough files in the directory that you need to scroll to see it.  (See "Scrolling"
for info on how to scroll through your files.)
  • Delete - Click on the file or folder you want to delete.  Then, click on "File" and "Delete".  Answer "Yes" to the pop-up window that follows.
  • Rename - Click on the file or folder you want to rename.  Then, click on "File" and "Rename".  Type the name you want to change the file or folder to and hit enter.
  • Upload - You may only upload one file at a time.  Navigate to the folder you want to upload the file to.  Click "File" and "Upload".  Browse to the location of the file you want to upload by clicking on the "Browse" button, navigating to the file, selecting it and clicking "Ok".  Alternatively, you may directly enter the path of the file you want to upload.  Once the path is entered either through browsing or by entering it directly, click "Upload".
  • Download for Viewing - Use this option if you would simply like to view the file you select.  It will, however, download it onto your computer.  It should also run whatever program is set to view that file type.  First, select the file you want to view.  Then, click "File" and "Download for Viewing".
  • Logout - Click "File" and "Logout" when you want to logout of the system.  You may also click on the door-like looking icon at the top of your screen to logout.  This icon changes to this icon , when you mouse-over it.  After logging out, make sure to close the browser window you were in to complete the logout.

EDIT:

  • Copy - You may only copy one file at a time.  First, select the file you want to copy.  Second, click "Edit" and "Copy".  Notice, the file has been referenced at the bottom of the page.  There should be two buttons on the line, one on either side of the file, "Paste" and "Cancel".  Next, navigate to the location you want to copy the file to.  Finally, click on the "Paste" button nest to the file listing at the bottom of the page.
  • Move - Follow the directions above for "Copy" except click "Move" instead of "Copy".

View:

  • Refresh - Click "View" and "Refresh" to view an updated listing of your current directory.

Help:

  • Help - Click "Help" and "Help" to view (minimal) help documents.

icon:

  • Icon - Click on the icon, to move up the directory structure one level.

Additional Features:

  • Scrolling - When you enter a directory that has more file and folders than can be displayed at one time, a scrollbar will appear along the bottom of your page.  It will be horizontal, even though the file names are listed vertically.  You may operate it like a normal scrollbar, except that it displays by pages.  That means, you can't simply click on the arrow and get only the next file up or down.  You will get the next page up or down.  There my also be scroll bars that follow the scrolling rules of your operating system and/or browser.  Their look will be according to the style of your browser and operating system.
  • Navigating - You may browse through the directory structure presented to you in much the same way you would locally, on your own computer.  You may click on the small '+' marks along the left hand side of your window that are associated with directories to expand into them.  You may double click on folders to open them.  You may double click on files to open them in a browser window.  (Some files may additionally require an external viewer as well, such as word documents.)  You may use the icon on the end of the menu bar to move up the directory structure.
  • Text View - There is an icon which will turn into this icon on a mouse-over, at the top of the page that switches your view to a text based view.  This is nice for systems who are older or are on slower connections.    You may directly login to this option if you wish to entirely avoid the GUI by first browsing to https://gwia.pen.wisc.edu/NetStorage/TextView.html.  The same operations are available in this view as in the GUI view.  Here (85k) is a screen shot of what this view looks like.
